Roots Music Press Release
Floyd has been privileged not only with a rich heritage of music from which to draw, but with stellar mentors and cohorts all over the musical map. Like many of these legends of American music, Floyd is not to be fenced in to one genre -- he loves to play great music whatever it's label .
Even more, Floyd loves to pass on the musical heritage -- his appreciation for the the music, the genius, the stories and the diverse histories of those who added their unique voices to what we now call Roots music. Floyd continues the tradition of passing it down and preserving the legacy of American music.
With a sometimes irreverent humor, Floyd has delighted audiences from toddlers (with his recordings) to seniors, with music and anecdotes of legendary musicians. (The list of artists with whom Floyd has performed reads like a “Who’s Who of American Music” (over 50 top CDs and countless performances) including Merle Haggard, 5 albums with George Strait, The Texas Playboys, Waylon Jennings, jazz guitarist Herb Ellis, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison, Monte Warden, Don Walser and the Crickets to name a few.)
Between his touring, recording and major performances, you might find Floyd at the Austin Jazz Workshop, school jazz demonstrations, conferences or even a jam session at Elder Hostel.
Few can match Floyd Domino's "backstage" view of the American music landscape nor his connections to the roots of American popular music.
